Volunteers Needed!
The Pacific Rim Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition (PRCCDC) is gearing up for 2024 and needs subject matter experts to help create scenarios, judge competitors, and more. Read on to learn how you can contribute!
The annual Pacific Rim Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition is open to two- and four-year colleges and universities, that serves as the regional qualifier for the National Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition (NCCDC). The event provides 10-12 student teams from colleges and universities around the Pacific Northwest with real world challenges while maintaining a corporate network. Details on the event:
When: Competition March 22-23rd Job Fair March 24th
Location: The Evergreen State College, 27000 Evergreen Pkwy NW, Olympia, WA 98505
The event is quite the spectacle showcasing top cybersecurity talent coming out of our local college system. It takes about 1000 human hours to create the scenarios and build out the competition. So if you are a subject matter expert in cybersecurity that is looking for ways to give back to the next generation of cybersecurity professionals we'd love to have you join our team. Here are some of the volunteer opportunities available:
Operations Team - competition officials that organize, run, and manage the competition. The team that provides strategic oversight and guidance. Gold Team members often consist of industry professionals, mentors, or experienced cybersecurity experts who offer advice and feedback to the competing teams.
White Team - competition officials that observe team performance in their competition area and evaluate team performance and rule compliance. The neutral team is responsible for overseeing and judging the competition. White Team members may include competition organizers, sponsors, and industry professionals. They ensure fair play, score the teams based on their performance, and provide support as needed.
Red Team - penetration testing professionals simulating external hackers attempting to gain unauthorized access to competition teams’ systems. The offensive team tasked with attacking the network infrastructure. Red Team members, often composed of industry professionals or experienced cybersecurity experts, attempt to exploit vulnerabilities in the systems, simulate real-world cyber threats, and challenge the Blue Team's ability to defend against them.
Blue Team/Competition Team - the institution competitive teams consisting of students competing in a PRCCDC event. The defending team is responsible for maintaining and securing the network infrastructure. Blue Team members work to ensure the availability, integrity, and confidentiality of the systems and data. They must defend against simulated cyberattacks launched by the Red Team.
