Free Cyber Range for Educators in Washington  

Cyber Range Poulsbo is Washington’s educational cyber range, a cloud-based platform used for teaching and learning cybersecurity. Supporting programs at high schools, community and technical colleges, and universities, this statewide resource provides free cybersecurity lab infrastructure and curricula to Washington state educators and their students.  

Foster Career Readiness with Experiential Learning 

Built and hosted by Western Washington University, Cyber Range Poulsbo plays a crucial role in ensuring access to hands-on cybersecurity education here in Washington state. By providing networks, systems, tools, applications, live data, and specialized technology stacks for industry-relevant training, Cyber Range Poulsbo is a powerful technology resource to enhance capabilities and real-world experiences.  

Best of all, schools and students are spared a hefty price tag. Cyber Range Poulsbo provides a safe and equitable environment with no budget required. Educators can implement basic to advanced cybersecurity courses and curricula without having to maintain their own lab infrastructure. Students can access secure resources to practice cybersecurity skills without the vulnerabilities or legal obstacles of school networks. 

Try Out New Exercises 

The CCoE partnered with the Cyber Range Poulsbo team to increase the number and breadth of learning exercises. Throughout academic year 2023-24, a team of developers and peer reviewers, including faculty and private industry professionals, worked together to produce 46 new exercises focused on foundational and intermediate skills. Some of the expanded topics from this initiative include:  

  • Database management and security
  • Digital forensics and incident response
  • Linux file system
  • Linux firewall
  • Pentesting tools
  • Ransomware
  • SCADA
  • Secure API development
  • Software vulnerabilities (Python and C/C++)
  • SQL Injection attacks and prevention
